One day, as a senior at UTC, I was biking down McCallie ave, (because I had just crashed my car for the trillionth time but that's neither here nor there) and I dropped into Humphreys Flowers. The first thing that hit me was the scrumptious smell. If you have worked there a while, you may not notice it anymore, but I remember the mix of plants and earth and fresh blooms just hugging me right as I walked in. As I approached the counter I saw colorful crotons, violets and hydrangea plants eclectically placed around the room with other household decor. In the cooler I was awed by the peonies, dahlias, garden roses, protea and tuberoses. Humphreys Flowers welcomed me into their family in 2012, and that's how I sprung into the hustle of the wedding world!
Humphreys Flowers is a 4 generation, family owned flower shop in Chattanooga, Tennessee. They got their start long ago because a lady named Alice started selling flowers downtown. Business was blossoming! (sorry, for the pun) She was so successful that Alice needed to open up a shop in 1934 on the corner of Cherry Street and 8th. Since those many years have passed, the shop has been passed down from generation to generation, and now is run by Helen Cheek, daughter of Clint and Helen Johnson (who are still very much involved in the day to day) and are located on McCallie Ave.
Humphreys specializes in weddings and events ranging from intimate elopements to large 300 person receptions and galas. I can say first hand, that they take such detailed, personal care of their customers, and strive to make sure the arrangements they put together beautifully reflect the bride and groom and their vision.
Getting married?! If you would like to request a consultation with a Wedding Specialist, you can do that here!
Humphreys also fills plenty of daily orders for many occasions including Anniversaries, Get Well, Sympathy and Just Because! You can place an order on their website, or call 434-629-2525 to pass on some color and happy vibes!
I am a sucker for Humphreys' cash and carry bouquets. You can call and request a beautiful, seasonal mix, or go in the cooler and experience all the colors, smells and pick some out yourself! Pictured below are some pretty ranunculus, dahlias and celosia I scooped up the other day. YUM.
I was so fortunate to have worked with Humphreys because they taught me an incredible amount about owning a business, customer service, and how valuable it is to have great relationships with fellow vendors. They always encouraged and supported me as I ventured down the path to wedding planning, and continue to show me so much love today. Working for a family business is super special, and Clint, Helen and Helen will always have my business and a special place in my heart!
